Although, originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Taylor Narain is an independent singer, songwriter, poetess and all around artist who represents Tennessee, as she spent quite some time growing up in Knoxville.
As for her music journey, Taylor Narain has been able to sing since a young girl.
In her mid-teens, she ventured out and began singing in her high school’s choir while also making beats at home after school.
Shortly after, she started collaborating with her younger brother, a rapper and producer out of Knoxville, TN as well as a few other Knoxville natives singing background tracks and hooks for many artists.
In 2015, she began writing her own music and exploring her sound.
The following year, she met a rapper and producer out of Nashville, Tn. Since then, the two have collaborated to release her latest projects: “Sick, Sad World EP” & “88”.
If you listen closely, you can hear that she is most definitely inspired by an array of artists especially from her childhood. Her inspirations range from artists such as Amel Larrieux, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Bjork and Tears For Fears; to artists like RZA, Mos Def, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez, Little Dragon and even iconic girl groups like TLC, I Am King, SWV and many more as she grew up with parents that were both pretty eclectic when it came to music.
This is just a small portion of where she draws her broad range in creativity from.
